2009 Cruise Collection

Chanel cruise 2009

You can never go too fast in the world of fashion. It’s not even fall yet, and already 2009’s Cruise Collections are rockin’ the runways. Here are some snippet’s of 2009’s Cruise Collection trends.

At Lanvin, WWD described the collection as "Hawaii Meets The Hamptons"

They could not have put it better. The Alber Elbaz went for classic shapes and body hugging silk fabrics. The collection is a delicious compromise of bright, summer colors and upper east side chic. Lanvin also opted for polka-dots for an even more retro cruise look. Elbaz was quoted as saying "it’s about the original idea of cruise, a fantasy vacation."

Marc Jacob for Louis Vuitton

Over at Louis Vuitton, our favorite controversial designer Marc Jacobs went über feminine-plus- rockstar in various (bright) shades of pink and black, both in clothes and accessories – there’s this big, pink monogram bag that is to die for. Jacobs also went shiny, what with his gold and bright pink shoes and shiny leather fingerless gloves – in pink and black. But not everything is all pink and rock and roll. There were also breezy, short dresses in light colors such as white, light pink, brown and black. Denim (with the LV flower embroidered on the pockets) and white shorts were present, as well as mini and knee length skirts. Also comfy polo shirts and black and white tops. Knits were also a surprising but a pretty part of the collection.

Chanel, top designer Karl Lagerfield decided to stage his catwalk at Miami!

Where else can you hold such a fashionable event but the Raleigh Hotel. As always, Chanel’s collection has that feeling of a modern classic. Lagerfield was quoted as saying that this collection was "all about proportions, cuts, volumes. There is not one line that is taken all through the collection. For cruise, you don’t do that.

There are many looks and an attitude’. There were a lot of blacks and whites, which were interspersed with neutral colors such as cream and pink. There was a lovely white dress (pleated top, with black bow-tie and hip=hugging skirt) matched with black and white open-toe booties. White flared pants paired with white poncho-styled top with funky accessories to finish the look. Pink and gray knit tops paired with gray pleated mini-skirts. Classic cut dresses with floral prints or the brand’s signature interlocking Cs in front. And to to add a dash of drama, feathered dresses and one-piece clothes.

Joh Galliano went retro for Christian Dior

Meenal Mystry of Style.com reports that John Galliano has recently been looking for inspiration stateside. Women such as Barbara Hutton, Millicent Rogers, and Nan Kempner served as inspiration. Thus Dior’s runway was filled with "bouncy, optimistic palette of corals, fuchsias, and limes, nearly every look was heavy on the beaded embroidery (down to the swimwear and shoes) and topped off with outsized sombreros and bijoux", reports Mystry.

Diane Von Furstenberg, the woman who invented the wrap-dress

There mostly mini-dresses in red, black white and grey. The runway is designed to look like beautiful Florentine garden. And the clothes looked prefect for such as setting. One particular dress look especially elegant with a gray satin bodice with stripe accent at the chest area and a striped black, gray and white skirt.

Another mini dress number looked really chic in a black, tiny triangular pattern and form-fitting skirt. A couple of dresses were more laid back. One mini-dress look like an oversized, form-fitting t-shirt with the words "bon voyage" written in front with red and black accent lines. Another was a bohemian inspired number also in shades of red, white and black. There were a few dresses in other colors such as yellow to break the the red, white and black pattern.
