Cleansing Your Skin

cleansing skinCleansing is an essential skincare routine. Your skin’s excess oil and the skin moisturizers you use draw in dust and dirt from the air. When combined with sweat, the makeup and sunscreen you apply daily can be embedded on your skin, making your complexion look more dull instead of actually improving it.

Also the layers of dead skin cells remain on your skin, as its outer layer regenerates every 24 hours. Such are the reasons why it is important to cleanse at least twice a day to rid your face of the impurities that may clog your pores.

There are a variety of cleansing products available in the market for you to choose from. You don’t have to spend much on expensive cleansers, as these would only be on your skin for a few seconds before rinsing it away. Look for a cleanser that works for your skin type. Check the product label to choose the right cleanser that’s most suitable for your skin type.

For oily skin, use cleansing products that rinse off easily. Bar soaps, soap gels, and liquid cleansers are most effective for oily skin. It is also recommended to use one of these products when cleansing your face, chest and back, as these are likely to be oilier than other areas of the body.

Cleansers for acne-prone skin are also advisable for oily skin. For bar soaps, you can choose from glycerine soaps or those that are made of vegetable oils. These soaps are less drying even if you tend to use them more often to cleanse your skin.

Complexion bars are more appropriate for dry skin. The mild and gentle formulation of such soap bars work well for normal to dry skin. Cleansing lotions like cold creams can also be applied to your skin to melt makeup. Remove excess oil and dirt easily by wiping the cream off with dry tissues or a washcloth. The thick and oily quality of cold creams make it suitable for dry skin types.

For sensitive skin, avoid mechanical cleansers such as facial scrubs and cleansing grains. Also limit the use of brushes and loofah as these can damage your skin. Choose synthetic detergents with a pH balance that works well for the skin. There are a few liquid cleansers in the market which are not irritating to the skin.

Ideally, your should cleanse your skin twice a day for only a few minutes. But if you cannot perform this routine, it is recommended to wash your face in the evening, when you can cleanse your skin of all the impurities accumulated during the day.

Also, skin moisturizers will work more effectively if your skin is clean enough to apply it on. For dry skin, a simple splash of water or toner in the morning and proper cleansing at night would work out fine.
