Finding the Right Sunglasses for Your Face Shape

sunglassesSummer is here again and what self-respecting fashionista would be caught without a pair of sunglasses? However before you go out and put on the nearest sunglasses you own it might be best to think of what style would best suit your type of face. With the variety of styles out there you can be assured that your oval, heart, square shaped face would find the perfect pair of sunglasses.

Choosing the right sunglass size has nothing to do with the shape of your face but with the face size. The smaller the face, the smaller the sunglasses.

The frame shape on the other hand should be in direct contrast to the shape of the face. It’s easy to remember but now we get to the meat of the story and that is choosing the right frame for your face.

Oval Shaped Face

If you have an oval face then you’re one of the lucky ones. Any type of sunglasses would work for you so feel free to experiment with the latest styles. The oval face has balanced proportions with the chin slightly narrower than the forehead so you can choose any frame shape.

Choose frames are as wide as the largest area of your face. Maintain the balance and avoid any styles with low temples. A square shaped glasses are best for this face.

Round Shaped Face

A round face as the name suggests is very full with few angles. Frames should make your face look longer and thinner. Choose frames that are wider than broadest part of your face.

The trick is to deemphasize the roundness. Look for glasses with wider frames and with angular or rectangular styles. Dark colors will also help minimize fullness.

Square Shaped Face

A square shaped face has a strong jawline, a wide forehead and wide cheekbones. Oval frames and other curvy styles will help reduce the angles as well as give some definition. By all means run from square or rectangular frames which will just emphasize the angles of your face.

Heart Shaped Face

A heart shaped face typically has a wider forehead, high check bones which then taper down to a smaller chin. Angular or aviator shaped frames will balance a smaller chin whilst rimless style sunglasses seem to naturally suit this shape of face.

It’s best to avoid darker colours which may ‘cut up’ the line of the face, instead opt for lighter colours like smokey browns and greys.

Diamond Shaped Face

This face shape has wide or high cheekbones with a narrow forehead and chin. Oval sunglasses will soften the contour of the face, although softly curved square frames will work as well. Make sure the styles are no wider than the top of the cheekbones

Triangle Shaped Face

This face has a narrow jaw and a wide forehead. Soften the lower portion of the face by accenting the eye area.

Styles such as cat- eyes should angle outward at the top corner and be wide enough to balance the jawline. You can also try metal frames with rimless bottoms.
