Whether it’s about clothes, accessories, hair, or makeup, runway shows give us an idea of what will be the trends for following season. That said, below are some of Fall fashion week’s hottest makeup and hairstyle trends.

Hairstyles

The Pompadour

Variations of this classic up-do were spotted at several runway shows, during fall fashion week. For Zac Posen, hairstylist Odile Gilbert says she "imagined a punk Josephine" when she created the sexily unkempt chignons. At Pollini, Redken’s creative consultant Guido created a Mor-rissey-like variation of the quaff – sleep on the sides, full at the front.

To do the pompadour: Start by pinning the back section of hair into a French twist. Then take your remaining tresses in the front and "tease and back-comb it to get height, pinning it in place at the crown," says Guido.

Low waves

Long flowing locks are all the rage this fall as well. At Anna Sui, models’ tresses cascaded in long silky waves. Hairstylist Garren says, "We wanted the girls’ hair to look like it could have dried on its own-silky at the top with low waves."

To style your hair with low waves: Start by spraying a light prep tonic on your hair, "to help hold the style," Garren says. He then split the models’ hairs into five sections and used a two-prong waving iron to curl the locks from the chin down, "to give uniform wave, as opposed to tight red-carpet curls."

The Winged liner

The pompadour looks works well with a dark, winged liner, as seen at the Pollini runway show.

To create the winged liner: Line your eyes with a dark (or black) liner, sucha s L’Oreal Paris Extra-Intense Liquid Pencil Eyeliner, and create "wings" at the outer corners.

Glittery lids

Martine Sitbon’s Rue du Mail collection reportedly has this "luxurious toughness." To match this, Aaron de Mey, Lancôme Artistic Director, lined models’ lids with sparkly silver glitter. At Prada, Pat McGrath did the same thing, but opted for a glittery copper shade.

To do glittery lids: Aaron de May set the models’ lids with clear lip gloss and then lightly dabbed glitter on top.

Blue eye shadow

Blue made splash at this year’s fall fashion week. Azure eyes were spotted at Nicole Miller where makeup artist James Kaliardos colored models’ peepers with a smoky, deep cobalt hue; while makeup artist Makky painted models’ eyes bright turquoise at Tibi, and all-over aqua at Rebecca Taylor.

To get this look right: Kaliardos prepared the lids with a cream shadow, and then blended a matching powder shade, going upward. Markky adds, "A neutral highlighter makes the color pop even more."
