The ballerina bun is a simple yet elegant up-do that is making the rounds at Fall runways this year.
At Monique Lhuillier’s fashion show, the designer staged what stylist Sabrina Michals called "a ballerina and a smoky, operalike atmosphere." Michals added that "the clothes are beautiful and elegant, and she didn’t want the hair to take away from that."
Michals’s austere yet sophisticated hairstyle was the perfect solution.
To create the classic up-do, Michals dropped her brushes and went manual. "I’m not using a brush to gather the hair into a low pony because I want the chignon to be as tight and clean as possible," says the stylist.
To create the bun, Michals twisted and pinned them into what she calls "not too neat, not too messy" buns. After securing the buns, Michals sprayed Bumble and bumble’s Spare de Mode on her creation, and used a toothbrush to tame stray locks around the ears and hairline.
The ballerina up-do is perfect for formal parties, and dressy night-outs, particularly if the weather is warm.
