Julia Roberts Designs Armani Shirt for RED

Award winning actress Julia Roberts is busy with several projects – off-screen projects mostly.

The Academy award winner recently returned to work with Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani to design t-shirts to raise money to fight AIDS.

Roberts drew the tree of life symbol with the three words "Revolution. Evolution. Devotion" – the three words behind the (RED) acronym – arching over the tree’s foliage. In the inside of the shirt is the actress’ personalized signature – Julia for Emporio Armani (PRODUCT) RED.

The Emporio Armani (PRODUCT) RED T-shirt will be available in gray, black and red – and, reportedly, upon special request from Julia Roberts herself, the T-shirt will be made in Africa. The t-shirts will go on sale on September and will be both available online and at Armani boutiques worldwide.

Giorgio Armani was quoted as saying , "Julia has helped to create beautiful and unique designs for both women and men which will be a visible reminder of the part that we can all play in fighting AIDS in Africa. I adore working with Julia and appreciate, once again, how she always stands by my side in important collaborations such as this."

Julia Roberts has previously collaborated with the Italian designer on a designing project also for (PRODUCT)RED. She and her husband Danny Mulder designed bracelets bearing the same tree of life design as the shirt. The "boy" and "girl" Emporio Armani (PRODUCT)RED bracelets were featured in Oprah and were sold Decem 1 (World Aids day) of last year.

(RED) was started by U2 frontman and activist Bono and DATA chairman Bobby Shriver in 2006 to raise awareness and money for the Global Fund. (RED) teams up with the world’s most iconic brands to create a (PRODUCT)RED branded items. For each sale of a (PRODUCT)RED product, a percentage goes to The Global Fund. The money helps HIV/AIDS stricken people in Africa, as well as to fight other diseases such as Tuberculosis and Malaria.

According to the (RED) website, (RED) partners and events, which include American Express, Converse, Gap, Motorola, Apple, Hallmark, Dell, Microsoft and Emporio Armani, have generated over $110 million to date.

Armani, a launch partner, has designed an entire line of (PRODUCT)RED clothing, accessories, eyewear, watches, fragrances and jewellery. About 40% of the gross profit margin from sales of all the products go directly to the Global Fund to help fight AIDS in Africa.
